Founded in 1995

Egan-Jones is a credit rating agency established in 1995. Privately owned and operated without affiliation to any financial institution, Egan-Jones is respected for its timely, accurate evaluations of credit quality.

Nationally Recognized Statistical Rating Organization (NRSRO)

Egan-Jones Ratings Co., Inc. (EJR) was granted NRSRO registration status on December 21, 2007 by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), and is permitted to perform credit rating activities in three classes:

  1. Financial Institutions, Brokers, or Dealers
  2. Insurance Companies
  3. Corporate Issuers.
EJR does not currently maintain NRSRO status to provide credit ratings for issuers of asset-backed securities (ABS), and issuers of government securities, municipal securities, or securities issued by a foreign government.

European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA)

On December 12, 2014, Egan-Jones Ratings Co., Inc. (EJR) was certified by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) as a Credit Rating Agency (CRA) in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1060/2009 of the European Parliament. Because of its ESMA-certified status, it is also considered an External Credit Assessment Institutions (ECAI) across the whole European economic area. ESMA is an independent EU Authority that contributes to safeguarding the stability of the European Union's financial system by enhancing the protection of investors and promoting stable and orderly financial markets.

National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)

Egan-Jones Ratings Co. is, also, recognized by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) as a credit rating provider. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is the U.S. standard-setting and regulatory support organization created and governed by the chief insurance regulators from the 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories.
